What started out as a Dos Equis commercial took off into the
Most Interesting Man in the World meme. The original ad aired back in 2006. It made
its way to the internet in 2007 when the ads were uploaded to youtube and the
website staythirstymyfriends.com was launched where fans could post their own
videos. People continued to enjoy the Most Interesting Man character and a
twitter impersonator popped up. There was a meme generator for Most interesting
man in the world in 2009, and in January 2010, a quickmeme page was created.
Vitamin Water also got in on this trend and made a paraody
with “The Most Ridiculous Man in the World” who said “I don’t always drink
water, but when I do, it’s Vitamin Water.” As of April 10th, 2012, the
Quickmeme page had over 96,000 submissions. The era ended somewhat at
Super Bowl 50 when they retired actor Jonathan Goldsmith as the Most
Interesting Man. I think a lot of the success of this meme has to do with how
likeable the actor really is. Jonathan Goldsmith’s charisma is what made the
commercial so successful, which is what spread the meme so widely.
This is my take on the meme, based on an almost true event
