I researched the popular meme
known as Rage Guy. According to encylopediadramatica.se this meme first
appeared on 4chan, an image based bulletin board where users can post and
comment anonymously. This drawing is based off an Eddie Murphy joke where he is
discussing an unfortunate problem that can arise while one is relieving
oneself. Rage Guy is a 4 panel comic in which a series of upsetting or rage
inducing events take place in three of the panels and the final panel shows a
crudely drawn cartoon face is showed angrily expressing one particular curse
word. The letters F and U are drawn next to this character, there are exactly 7
f’s and 12 u’s. It originated in 2008 and popularity started slowly and peaked
in November of 2010. This meme stayed popular until December 2011, according to
Google Trends, and then began to decline slowly, although there is still some
interest today.
