Jennie Mai - An Interview with StudioXIII Photography "Jamie"

I had the chance to interview portrait photographer Jamie from StudioXIII Photography.

Jen: What got you interested in this industry?

Jamie: I took photography classes in high school. We did film photography and I just fell in love with it even more.

Jen: How long have you been working in this industry?

Jamie: 7 years! When I was in high school I just fell in love with it but very bummed when there were no photography courses at my college. Then I thought maybe I could do nursing. Then I worked at Whole Foods and that was pretty boring. So I got back to photography and took pictures of family members, friends, and now here I am!

Jen: How old were you when you got your first camera?

Jamie: I was in my high school years. I got a Pentax camera from my dad. And then after high school, I bought a Canon Rebel.

Jen: Who are your favorite photographers?

Jamie: Sally Mann, Annie Leibovitz.

Jen: What kind of software do you use to edit your photos?

Jamie: I use Lightroom and Photoshop. I use Lightroom for simple color correcting and photoshop if I need to fix some errors.

Jen: My best friend and I actually have our first wedding gig in the summer. Do you have any advice for us?

Jamie: Wear comfortable shoes! And communicate with your clients. Some clients may want you to just take whatever photos as you like and some clients would want you to take specific and candid moments.

Jen: Describe your favorite photo you ever took

Jamie: It was actually recent. I posted it this morning actually because it was so amazing. I took a photo of a transman and it was triple exposure. It was just so amazing.
